The Analog Problem

In the early 2000s, bus audio was a pieced-together nightmare of car-audio components, analog DVD players, and physical mixing boards. Adjusting volume or switching inputs meant relying on mechanical potentiometers and physical push-buttons. In a heavy transport vehicle constantly subjected to dust and intense road vibration, these mechanical parts degraded rapidly, leading to scratchy audio and dead channels.

Routing raw analog signals through physical switches also meant that every time a driver changed the source from a DVD to the microphone, the speakers would fire off a loud, damaging electrical "pop."

The biggest roadblock, however, was the electrical system itself. Buses run on a completely different voltage architecture than standard automotive audio, which was designed for passenger cars. There were simply no premium audio systems available built for bus electrical environments. Forcing car-grade analog audio gear to run in a bus using crude converters introduced severe ground loops, alternator whine, and harmonic distortion directly into the audio signal.

Digitalizing the Experience

Our founder, coming from a deep background in the car audio world, saw this massive gap in the transport industry. Driven purely by a passion for sound and the enthusiasm to fix a broken system, he decided it was time to digitize the passenger experience.

Backed by a highly capable engineering team, the goal was to build a controller completely from scratch that could handle bus voltages seamlessly and eliminate the physical failures of analog switches.

The team engineered a system that utilized memory to digitally store settings. Instead of relying on mechanical dials that wear out over time, they designed a unit with multiple inputs that switched digitally. By implementing soft-presetted tone and volume controls, the team completely eliminated the electrical clicks, popping, and acoustic harmonics that plagued older analog systems.

5.1 DAB CONTROLLER

2004: The First 5.1 Controller

All of that R&D culminated in 2004 with the release of our very first 5.1 controller. The moment we implemented that first unit into a luxury bus, the result was undeniable. It didn't just fix the technical issues; it drove the sound quality and the entire atmosphere of the cabin to a completely new level.

It bridged the gap between luxury car audio and commercial transport, proving once and for all that high-end sound belonged on the road, no matter the size of the vehicle.

1999

VARMAS founded in Kothamangalam - the beginning of automotive audio innovation.

2004
